Love sifting through other people’s family heirlooms and antique items with their own backstories? Or buying pre-loved clothes, homewares and other items? Well make sure to come along to ParraPickers, the quarterly flea market held at The Bower Parramatta and indulge in some ethical shopping! Plus there are a number of fun activities to participate in, like the first Parramatta Boomerang Bag sewing bee.
Buying second hand is a more sustainable option than buying new.
Also at the September ParraPickers, there will be:
- Boomerang Bag sewing bee – learn how to make boomerang bags
- Coffee from Toby’s Estate – bring your keep cups!
- Ceramic activities and clay-play
- ParraClay open studio Day, with student and member pottery for sale.
- Pho and soup for sale in handmade ceramic bowls – buy the soup and you get to keep the bowl!
- Jewellery-making demonstrations
Parramatta’s 1st Boomerang Bag Sewing Bee
Boomerang Bags is a worldwide movement to tackle plastic pollution. They are reusable shopping bags handmade by volunteers from donated and repurposed material that might have otherwise ended up in landfill. Think doona covers, tablecloths, sheets and curtains – all lovingly given a new lease of life in the form of shopping bags. Not only are they useful, they also start meaningful conversations on the importance of reducing our reliance on single-use plastic. Plus the volunteer Boomerang Bag hubs that make the bags are a lovely way to bring community members together around a common purpose.
The sewing bee at ParraPickers on Saturday 29th September is the first one for the new Parramatta Boomerang Bag hub.
