I’ve visited the Cove Dining Co at Abbotsford a few times for breakfast but most recently last weekend. The café is located in the community hall of the former Abbotsford Nestlé factory site and has a great character. There’s an outdoor verandah with alfresco seating overlooking gardens and tennis courts, which is great if you need somewhere for the kids to run around.
The atmosphere is quite relaxed, with ample space for prams and larger groups. You can make a reservation (which I’d recommend on the weekend as they get pretty busy) or you can just hope to grab a table when you arrive. Orders are taken and paid for at the front counter.
If you find yourself having to wait for a table, there’s a cute corner with beautiful fresh flowers, gifts and bits and pieces that you can browse to pass the time.
The breakfast menu provides a good selection, with our favourite being the Croque Madame with House Cured Ham, Pork Rillette, Gruyere and Egg ($19.00), and the hotcakes with Blueberry, Mascarpone and Organic Maple Syrup ($19.00) coming in a close second. There is also a kids menu, with most items priced under $10. My daughter really enjoyed the brioche toast because it’s soft and sweet.
A good meal is nothing without a good coffee as far as I’m concerned. The Cove Dining Co serves Campos, which is a favourite. The babycinos are served with a marshmallow, which gets bonus points in my book.
If the kids get tired of running around the garden or exploring the veggie patch out the front, you can purchase a little activity pack with a colouring in book, pencils and stickers.
If you’re ever in the area, I would recommend you give this place a try. Enjoy!
