Lachlans Old Government House

I have walked passed Lachlans Old Government House many times during my visits to Parramatta Park. But it wasn’t till I was looking for a high tea venue that I finally had a chance to visit.

Lachlans Old Government House is a National Trust House located in Parramatta. Nestled among old English hedges and historical gardens, the building houses a traditional restaurant with three function rooms, adjoining vine-covered verandas and a permanent silk-lined marquee.

I booked one of the private little rooms, called the North Room, which comfortably accommodated 10 of us. Upon arrival, we were seated and offered a glass of sparkling as well as a range of Australian Madura teas to choose from. The teas were set up in the room, with no limit on consumption. Not long after our drinks were sorted, and we’d finished admiring the lovely setting and pretty teacups, we were excited to see our 3 tiered platters arrive.

The platters had a range of sweet and savoury options. The selection included a range of sandwiches, mini tortilla rolls, savoury tarts with various fillings and mini cocktail pies. Fresh hot scones are served with light whipped cream and jam along with a range of elegant petite sweets, such as lemon tarts, macarons, chocolate brownies and chocolate dipped strawberries.

The selection and variety were generous, with even some leftovers to take home. I was pleased that our special dietary requests were also catered for, including gluten free options and pregnancy friendly sandwiches.

The service was good, with our pots of hot water replenished regularly. We weren’t rushed out which was really nice. We made full use of our afternoon gossiping, sipping tea and enjoying our child-free afternoon in a lovely setting. If you’re looking for a sweet fix and a relaxing way to spend the day, I highly recommend you check out Lachlans Old Government House.
