If you have travelled along Windsor Road, then you would have passed NBC Sports Club. And probably seen the Kids Backyard signage. The Northmead Bowling and Community Sports Club (NBC Sports Club) dates back to the 1950’s and has gone through a number of upgrades since then. The most recent and important one for families took place when one of the bowling greens was turned into a kids play area and Kids Backyard lived up to its name. And they currently have a great winter special, where kids eat free with any adult meal ($20+) purchased.
The ‘kids backyard’ at NBC Sports Club has been around for a while. It started out as a bowling green where a few toys were put out for babies and toddlers to play with. But in September 2017 the bowling green was turned into a purpose built family space – yay!
There is a very large jumping castle, known as Tikki Island, for older kids. And there is a staff member supervising when it’s inflated – every day from 11am during the school holidays.
For little ones, there are some cubby houses and climbing play gym under a shade cloth. And if you have shopped at Winston Hills Mall in the past, you will recognise this play equipment. We love that it was repurposed (and saved from landfill) when Winston Hills Mall upgraded their play area in 2017.
Plus there is lots of grass to run around on. There are a number of wooden picnic tables with umbrellas next to the play area. And there is an outdoor covered deck running the length of NBC Sports Club that overlooks the play area.
The toilets are inside the Club and there is a baby change table inside the female toilets.
The Kids Backyard is open 7 days from 10am. The jumping castle (Tiki Island) currently only operates Thursday and Friday evenings from 5pm to 9pm and on weekends from 11am to 9pm. Plus daily during school holidays. Keep in mind that the operating hours of the jumping castle do seem to vary depending on the season.
FREE Kids Activities
Almost monthly, NBC Sports Clubs puts on a free themed kids event. They are usually on a Sunday from 10am to 1pm, with an entertainer and different activities. In the past, they have held a mermaids and pirates day, cowgirls and cowboys day, kids discos and karaoke.
The kids events coming up at NBC Sports Club are:
The Kids Backyard is a popular venue for birthday parties for obvious reasons. And we have heard great things from families who have held birthday parties there. You can choose to hold your birthday party in the garden gazebo in the kids backyard, on the back deck of the club or inside. The is a party host and different food options available for kids and adults. Find our more here.
Food – Maze Grill
Our meals from Maze Grill Cafe at NBC Sports Club have always been tasty. But the portion size does vary between meals. And the meals are a bit more on the expensive side when compared with other local clubs.
The Maze Grill Cafe is open for lunch and dinner, as well as for coffee and cake in the morning.
- Monday to Friday – Coffee Shop: 9:30am – 2:30pm | Lunch: 11.30am – 2.30pm | Dinner: 5.30pm – 8.30pm
- Saturday and Sunday – Lunch: 11.30am – 2.30pm | Dinner: 5.30pm – 8.30pm

Finding NBC Sports Club
About 4kms north of Parramatta, NBC Sports Club is on the left hand side of Windsor Road when travelling north. There is on-site parking, but it does fill up quickly on weekends and in the evenings. So you may need to park in the surrounding streets, like Anderson or Whitehaven Roads. You can also get there by one of the buses that travel along Windsor Road, with a bus stop right out the front.
