Tella Balls Dessert Bar

Put on your stretchy pants, grab some fellow sweet-tooths, and get yourself to Tella Balls! Newly opened at Top Ryde City, Tella Balls Dessert Bar is the much-anticipated newcomer to the local dining scene.  No longer is it necessary to battle traffic and parking issues on a trek to the inner west. We’ve now got our very own “world famous” dessert bar right here in our neighbourhood.

Opening at Top Ryde City

Tella Balls opened on Monday 20 November 2017 and timed their arrival perfectly for the lead up to the silly season.  It’s a great destination for Christmas catch-ups with your mama tribe once the kids are tucked up in bed.  They’re open 11am-11pm 7 days a week.  Or you could dangle the promise of a Tella Balls treat (aka bribe) to get you through the madness of Christmas shopping with little people in tow.  Or do what we did, and make sweet family memories after a visit to Santa.  Top Ryde City’s Santa is fantastic with children, full of Christmas cheer and even has a real beard.

Tella Balls Staff and Menu

Tella Balls staff are welcoming and friendly. They went out of their way to explain the menu options to our boys and encouraged them to sample a number of gelato before making their final decision.  And as an opening special, us adults scored a free coffee!  I don’t think that offer will last long, but it was a lovely surprise and helped balance out the sugar high.

As for the menu, if you like Nutella, you can’t go wrong.  Their signature “Tella Balls” are a hit and there’s pancakes, crepes and waffles in a dizzying array of flavour combinations.  You’ll get a kick out of their creative “Tella Delights”, which feature a sweet twist on familiar savoury options.  Think mousse “lasagne”, Tella Ball “sliders”, “fettuccine” style crepes, and the “Tellabab” dessert kebab.  We’ve made a pact to try “Tellafish and chips” on our next visit.  It looks like regular fish and chips but of course, being a dessert bar, you know it can’t possibly be. Instead, it’s crumbed and fried vanilla ice cream with a side of donut chips.  And for an extra serve of decadence, it also comes with warm Nutella and Belgian white chocolate dipping sauces. Definitely one to share!

Other Things to Consider

  • Tella Balls Dessert Bar is located close to Blaxland Road and the busy bus interchange.  If you’re nervous about runners, be sure to get a table inside.
  • No toilets on-site.  The nearest facilities are located inside Top Ryde City Shopping Centre near Priceline Pharmacy, about a 3 minute walk.  Baby change facilities are also available there.
  • High chairs are available.
  • There is inside and outside dining options, with space for prams in both areas.  In peak times it may get a little crowded, but on our visit, four prams from nearby diners were accommodated with ease.

Getting There

Tella Balls Dessert Bar is located in the outdoor section of Level G (Ground) of Top Ryde City Shopping Centre.  You can find it near the bus stop on Blaxland Road, near the corner of Develin Street. There are many bus options if arriving by public transport and it is serviced by the Shop Ryder Community Bus.  Parking at the shopping centre is free for the first three hours.
