Parramatta Women’s Shelter will open its doors for the first time this October. The new refuge will provide crisis accommodation for women and their children. The Shelter can welcome three large families at a time, meeting a real need in the community. “IT CAN BE TOUGH TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO STAY IN A HURRY FOR MUMS WITH A FEW KIDS WHO ARE ESCAPING FAMILY VIOLENCE,” SAID BOARD CHAIR LIZ SCULLY. Sadly, there are 56,000 homeless women in Australia every night. One in two women who seek crisis accommodation is turned away. Domestic and family violence is the main reason for women’s homelessness. And incredibly, it's the leading preventable cause of death and injury for women aged between 15 and 44. The Parramatta Women's Shelter is part of the Women’s Community Shelters Network.  Initial funding of $50,000 was raised by the Wentworth Point Community Action. This fantastic contribution was then matched by the City of Parramatta Council. The PAYCE Foundation has also backed the project by donating the use of two houses in the region. And additional support has been received from the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta and the OLMC Parramatta Mercy Tree appeal. To support the Parramatta Women's Shelter, you can make a donation or follow them on Facebook. High Tea for Parramatta Women's Shelter
