The Bower Reuse & Repair Centre is an environmental charity committed to stopping usable items from going to landfill. Established in Marrickville in 1997, The Bower had long hoped to open a second store in Sydney’s west. Now, with thanks to a $25,000 Community Grant from City of Parramatta, that dream is becoming a reality with The Bower Parramatta opening Saturday 1st October.
The Bower Parramatta will offer low cost, pre-loved furniture, bikes, homewares and books plus lots more like a fantastic repair cafe.
In the past twelve months, The Bower has diverted 275,108kg of household goods away from landfill for reuse.
Since 2015, The Bower has worked with City of Parramatta to provide a free service to residents – The Collection and Rehoming Service – collecting items that are no longer needed but are too good to throw away.
Now Parramatta residents can access their free collection service and donate household items directly to The Bower at the Parramatta store.
The Collection & Rehoming Service is also available to residents in neighbouring areas too – in the City of Ryde, Cumberland Council and Strathfield Council regions.
The Bower’s Parramatta shopfront will host a monthly Repair Café, a free service where technicians are on hand to advise and assist members of the community to fix dodgy small electrical items, rickety tables and chairs, and wobbly bicycles.
Every year, Australians throw away piles of stuff, which could be used again after a simple repair. The Bower aims to show people just how easy it is to repair items and give them a new lease of life.
The Repair Café will operate on the last Saturday of each month, from 10am – 12pm.
The Bower Parramatta is located at Shop 1, 10 Hunter Street. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
