cliMy boys and I really like nature based playgrounds. I like them even better if they are fenced and there is a cafe nearby. Balmaringa Reserve ticks all those boxes…if you are happy to take a bit of a drive. The playground is located in South Turramurra, just under 20kms from Parramatta CBD, though it is a lot closer as the crow flies.
Best suited for kids 2-8yrs, this medium sized, fenced playground has plenty to climb on, including some large sandstone blocks, play gym and a rope cube.
There are also swings, slides, twirling twisters, rockers and a scooter/ bike track. The lovely large trees provide shade to parts of the playground, though I imagine it would get hot here in the middle of the day in summer.
The playground seemed popular but not overly crowded when we went on a school day, but I heard it gets very busy during the school holidays – and I can understand why.
Around the playground are seats, plus there is a grassed area and bubbler. The nearest toilet is at Sir David Martin Reserve/ Auluba Oval across the road or at the BP petrol station on Kissing Point Road.
Just across a lane way from the playground is the South Turramurra shops where you will find an IGA, post office and Vertical Espresso cafe. The cafe has a very funky interior plus a small gated courtyard out the back that is great to eat with the kids and also faces out onto the playground.
Finding Balmaringa Reserve
Parking is on the surrounding streets or at the shops. We didn’t have any trouble during the week but it may get busier on the weekends.
