park-snapshotWow, what a gorgeous spot along Parramatta River and an awesome new playground. Banjo Paterson Park definitely has a LOT to offer families. There are plenty of picnic spots and facilities, walking paths along the river, toilets, playground to keep the kids happy and a bit for history buffs as well.

Playground

The playground was recently upgraded. There is now has play equipment for toddlers and preschoolers as well as primary school aged kids, including:

  • a rocket like giant slide tower, with a covered, long, twisty slide and a open shorter slide
  • seesaw
  • two lots of swings – one dual swing set with bucket seats for babies and toddlers and another dual set for older kids
  • wooden climbing play gym with a rope net, stepped fire pole, dual slide, bridge and cubby house underneath
  • rocker

Banjo Paterson Park Gladesville

A wonderful part of the playground is that there are Banjo Paterson inspired elements throughout, like words from the Man from Snowy River. It is a very nice touch.

There is a shade cloth over part of the playground and there is also some natural shade. The baby/ toddler bucket swings though are fully exposed until the afternoon.

The metal slide will also get hot in summer until the afternoon, when the sun goes behind the tower. The ground of the playground is bark, so little ones can end up quite dirty.

Other Facilities

There is a picnic shelter, BBQ and toilet block very close to the playground, as well as picnic facilities through the park. You can walk or ride along the paths that run along the river, overlooking Looking Glass Bay. While exploring the park, we came across a number of brush turkeys, which my kids love.

Finding Banjo Paterson Park

The park is not too far from Victoria Road and the Gladesville Police Station, at the end of Punt Road. There is a lot of on-site parking.
