One of our favourite parks to visit is Epping Oval because of its fantastic fenced playground. It is located in the quiet, leafy area of North Epping on the other side of the M2. I’m always amazed at how quiet this park is on weekdays, considering everything it has going for it! It would be lovely to see more families enjoy it.
Fenced playgrounds are a great way to ensure your children can enjoy running around and playing to their hearts content without feeling pressure to monitor their every move. The beauty of the Epping Oval Playground is that within the fence are some lovely grassy spots with shade from the trees, a BBQ and a few picnic benches. This means it is a perfect park for a child’s birthday party or a picnic play-date with friends. We actually had my daughter’s first birthday here and everyone loved the set up!
It’s important to note however, that the fence for this park is fairly low, with multiple small gates around the edge. So you still need to be watchful of your children if they are inclined to make a dash out (or over) the gates!
The play equipment is well balanced to suit a range of ages. It has:
- three swings (including a baby swing and round basket swing)
- climbing play gym with two slides
- large rope climbing tower, good for primary-aged kids
There is also a concrete path around the edge of the play equipment, perfect for riding bikes or scooters. The surface of most of the play area is bark mulch, so if you have a fussy child like mine, be prepared to shake bark from their shoes multiple times!
It is a good idea to bring a towel if you plan to visit in the morning, especially in the cooler months as sometimes the equipment can be a bit wet.
- sheltered picnic tables
- park benches
