The National Diesel Dirt and Turf Expo returns for its 4th year. The expo has the biggest range of earth moving machinery, agricultural machinery, mowing equipment, trucks, boats, bikes. Families are welcome to attend and it’s FREE to visit!
We’ve enjoyed going every year since it first opened in 2016. And have always called it the Digger Expo. My little ones just love it – and never want to leave, even after a few hours!
The Diesel, Dirt & Turf Expo is a family friendly event perfect for construction loving kids (and adults).
Not only can your kids get up close to all the favourites – bulldozers, diggers, forklifts, rollers, tractors, rock crushers and bob cats. But they can sit in them and watch them in action as well! Plus there’s live music, entertainment, food trucks, giveaways, face painting, children’s challenges and other things for kids to do. And a BIG prize give away.
Expo Dates and Times
- Friday 3rd May: 9:30am to 5pm (great day to take little ones or school groups)
- Saturday 4th May: 9:30am to 5pm
- Sunday 5th May: 10am to 3pm
Handy Tips for Taking Kids to the Digger Expo
The annual National Diesel, Dirt and Turf Expo is definitely not to be missed if your kids LOVE anything construction! Now while it is family friendly, it is an industry expo. So expect to be given a LOT of promotional info by the exhibitors – but a LOT of freebies as well!
My top tip is to go on Friday with little ones if you can. The quietest time seems to be Friday afternoon. It’s a LOT busier on the weekend and you will need to allow more time to wait to get onto some of the equipment.
Put on your walking shoes! The Expo is BIG and you have to walk a certain way to start with. Think Ikea but without the shortcuts – so there’s a lot of walking! But it is pram friendly. And be prepared to stop a lot along the way as your kid gets in and out of EVERY vehicle!
Most of the expo is outside and there isn’t much shade. I’ve taken a compact umbrella for some portable shade in the past. But being in May this year the weather will hopefully be cooler – it was stinking hot last year!
Make sure to grab a map at the entrance with your expo bag. Or check out the map now and plan your visit, including taking note of where the toilets are!
The food area has seating and some shade. Just keep in mind it’s at the back of the expo (orange area on the map in the top right hand corner). And the main stage is there as well.
There are a LOT of cool freebies to collect so be prepared to be carrying a bit.
And finally, remember the kids can climb into and touch most machinery. The ones they can’t are usually locked up or there’s a sign. ENJOY!
Finding Diesel, Dirt and Turf Expo
The Diesel, Dirt and Turf Expo is located at Penrith Panthers showgrounds. This is to the right of the club, just past iFly Centre, the indoor skydiving.
The free parking this year is located at the corner of Jamison Road and Station Street. And there is a free shuttle bus from the parking to the expo entry. In previous years I’ve parked at Penrith Panthers but it is very hard to find a spot there. And they may have changed there parking set up since last year.
