Worldwide, we buy a million plastic bottles every minute! With only a small amount of these bottles being recycled, the environmental impact of plastic pollution is BIG.
Drink containers are a huge part of the problem. During 2016-17, Sydney Water removed nearly 2,000 cubic metres of litter from waterways, including 1 million plastic bottles.
The Beat the Bottle campaign aims to raise awareness of the fact that drinking tap water is a simple way we can all personally reduce our reliance on single use plastics. Plus, help keep our waterways beautiful! And you can get in on the action in Parramatta on Sunday 22nd July. Join hundreds of other families in removing rubbish from Parramatta River while listening to some groovy tunes and getting a water stainless steel reusable water bottle for your efforts! Plus, you can get a FREE coffee if you bring your keep cup – yay!
Sydney Water launched the Beat the Bottle campaign in March 2018. The two launch events at North Wollongong and Manly Cove collected 356kg of rubbish. This included over 4,000 cigarette butts, a surfboard and wellington boots. Wonder what we will collect along Parramatta River Foreshore?
