The Eat Street Car Park is being transformed to provide a more welcoming, functional, vibrant and safe car park for the quarter of a million people that visit the Eat Street precinct each year. To celebrate, City of Parramatta Council is throwing a Life is Sweet on Eat Street party on the rooftop of the car park this Saturday from 3pm to 9pm. Everyone is welcome at this evening of art, games, live music and sweetness.
A party in a car park may sound strange and a family friendly rooftop party even stranger, but I promise you the free Life is Sweet on Eat Street Party is the place to be this Saturday with the fam. And that’s no April fools day joke either!
My little boys and I went to the first event a month ago and have been looking forward to the rooftop party ever since. And we hear this party it is going to be more fun and much much BIGGER!
The six hour celebrations really should hit a sweet spot with all members of the family. From a live mural painting by world-renowned illustrator James Gulliver Hancock, a bike polo vs unicycle hockey match and game zone to live music in every corner, cinema area screening experimental film clips, ‘selfie’ walls, delicious sweet treats and a reveal of the car park upgrade works.
Activities for the Kids
The kids will have loads of fun, with a host of activities to put a smile on their faces, including:
- Chalk mural they can get involved in,
- Colouring in on calico bags and paper,
- Unicycle workshops, in between the unicycle house hockey,
- Imagination playground with blue foam building blocks,
- Arcade games as well as air hockey and fussball
- A blow up boxing ring with giant blow up gloves
- Game zone with table tennis and giant chess
- Eden Stylz hair braiding and styling
- Clay making of food themed items and a pottery wheel to try their hand at making a plate.
And if none of that interests them, then there is always the live music and sweet treats to enjoy.
Food Stalls and Sweet Treats
Whether you and the family prefer sweet or savoury, there will be something to satisfy your appetites. From authentic Turkish gozleme from H&S turkish gozleme and the finest bacon and egg roles, plus delicious burgers, from Porky’s Henhouse to crème brûlée from Torch Me Brulee, Gourmet Fairy Floss from Fluffy Crunch and Coffee and Tea from Darcy Street Project.
Getting to the Life is Sweet Party
The Life is Sweet party is on the rooftop of the Eat Street Car Park – 30 George Street, Parramatta. The lower levels of the car park will be operational but may fill up quickly. The alternative place to park is at the Riverbank car park, which is super close. And if you are coming by public transport, Parramatta ferry wharf is about 600m walk away and the Parramatta transport interchange about 900m.
There are a series of stair wells to take you to the rooftop, or lifts if you have a pram.
