Seems spring is a little impatient to visit this year, which is fine by us! There are so many fun family events this month that we had trouble picking our top 10, so we picked 15 instead to highlight (listed in date order). The Cherry Blossom Festival is definitely a stand out for us this month as well as all the cool science week activities!

Grab a sausage sizzle from any local Bunnings on Friday 3rd August and help our drought stricken farmers! All funds raised go towards Buy a Bale of Hay – Making a difference to Australian Farming Families.

Not sure how you can fight the #WarOnWasteAU? There’s plenty of small changes you can do in your everyday life and make a big difference. Pledge to refuse plastic straws, use a reusable coffee cup, water bottle and bag or even put takeaway in your own containers. On Friday 3 August from 8am-1pm, head down to the Parramatta Farmers Market in Centenary Square, make a pledge and get a FREE reusable bag or bottle!

3Market By The River | Saturday 4th August

Market By The River is a great, local market on the 1st Saturday of the month at Halvorsen Park in Ermington along Parramatta River from 9am to 2pm.

4Moocooboola Festival | Sunday 5th August

Moocooboola Festival is a free community event on Sunday 5th August set in the beautiful Boronia Park in Hunters Hill from 9.30am to 4pm.  There will be lots of free family activities and all day live entertainment, including a market bazaar with over 120 stalls, a spiegelesque tent, a dog show, a mobile rock climbing wall and rides.

5Poppy the Possum’s Birthday | Monday 6th August

Poppy the Possum is turning eight! And you’re invited to wear red to the Bush School in Central Gardens Merrylands for a morning of stories and songs to celebrate on Monday 6th August from 10am to 11am.

6Science in the Wild | Saturday 11th August

Science in the Wild is an outdoor family day that gives children and their parents the opportunity to learn about science in a relaxed fun atmosphere at The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. The incredible roving Dinosaur will be coming back as well and show you a bit of pre-historic fauna.

7Science and Tech Expo | Saturday 11th August

As part of Science Week, Ryde Library is hosting a Science and Tech Expo on Saturday 11th August from 9:30am to 4pm. Come along and touch, see and experience all things science, including Big Science show, Virtual Reality demonstrations and electric car and scooters.

8India Day Fair | Saturday 11th August

Celebrate India’s Independence Day at Parramatta Park on Saturday 11th August from 12pm to 8pm. A day filled with celebration, dance and music, rides, food, stall, performances and fire works!

Playfulness and merriment abounds as Family Fair returns for another year. Bring the family along to Rouse Hill House & Farm for a day of fun and nostalgia on Sunday 12th August from 10am to 4pm.

10Wallabies Fan Day | Sunday 12th August

Want to get up close and personal with the Qantas Wallabies? Come along to the FREE fan day on Sunday 12th August at Grantham Reserve in Seven Hills.

11Cherry Blossom Festival | 17th to 26 August


Celebrate the beautiful cherry blossom at the annual Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival held over 10 days, from Friday 17th August to Sunday 26th August 2018, at the Auburn Botanic Gardens. Take photos under a sky of pink, meet Hello Kitty, snack on Japanese food, beat a drum and watch sumo wrestling. Plus lots more, including a kids themed day for the first time this year!

12The Innovation Games | Saturday 18th August

Part of Sydney Science Festival in National Science Week, The Innovation Games is a free event full of new ways to taste, touch and see science and technology in ACTION on Saturday 18th August at Cathy Freeman Park.

13Colouring Dreams Family Fun Walk | Sunday 19th August

Bring your kids and join the Family Fun Walk on Sunday 19th August at Cabarita Park to support children that are doing it tough! House to Grow is a registered charity that provides the Colouring Dreams program, free creative workshops for children. This event will raise funds for the program which has been benefiting young kids in Rhodes since June.

14Magpies Family Fun Day | 19th August

Cheer on the Wenty Magpies in three exciting matches of rugby league. This is a great family event which will also include free rides, a jumping castle and petting zoo for the kids. There will also be a special appearance by our very own Macca the Magpie.

15Children’s Book Week | 18th – 24th August 2018

Book Week is a time schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children’s literature and you will often see children’s book character parades and talented librarians creating amazing displays. Storytimes during this week will take on the book week theme and kids are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character.
