Wentworthville Swimming Centre is a really lovely place for the family to have a splash, swim and play. There’s a partially shaded toddler pool, fenced playground, BBQ and picnic table, 50m pool and mostly shaded program pool, plus a family change room. And on weekends, the kiosk is usually open.
It opened in 1965 and nearly closed 50 years later. But thankfully community action ensured it stayed open and Wentworthville Swimming Centre is now set for a $5.9million upgrade. The pool will close from 1st April 2019 and is estimated to re-open December 2020. As part of the upgrade, new change rooms will be built along with an indoor pool, cafe and water playground.
All pools are heated to approximately 28°C. Around the pools are plenty of benches as well as grass to sit on – some shaded, some not.
Wentworthville Swimming Centre is regularly almost empty when we have been during the week, which adds to the tranquillity. On weekends in summer, there are a usually a lot more families but it still hasn’t felt over crowded.
Keep in mind that the toddler pool has varying deeps, with it generally being deeper in the middle. It was too deep for our then 2yr to keep his head above water while pulling himself along with his hands. It was though fine for our 3.5yr to sit with his head above water.
The equipment within the shaded playground area, with soft fall ground, includes:
- climbing play gym with slide
- rope bridge
- monkey bars
- climbing wall
- chain stepping stones
There is one BBQ near the fenced playground and it costs $0.20 to use. There is also a picnic table nearby, plus there are other seats around the pools.
Near the toddler pool is the family change room and next door are the female toilets and change rooms. The men’s change rooms and toilets are at the bottom of the 50m pool, near the entrance. To have a hot shower, you will need to pay $0.20.

Finding Wentworthville Swimming Centre
It is right near the Cumberland Highway and not too far from the M4. There is lots of on-site parking or you could catch a train as the pools are less than a 500m walk from Wentworthville train station. And great news, the train station is now wheelchair and pram accessible!
