There are two Hanami (‘flower viewing’) weekends which are extremely popular (aka busy) but also full of entertainment and activities. We much prefer however to go on a weekday and are looking forward to the kids day on 22nd August. And there is also a gardening day with Costa Georgiadis on 21st August.
Cherry Blossom Viewing
Hanami (meaning “flower viewing”) is the traditional Japanese custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers, especially cherry blossoms (桜 sakura). The practice of Hanami is more than a thousand years old and is still very popular in Japan today. It takes place in the spring for only a week or two when the flowers are in bloom. Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival invites you to enjoy a self-guided tour around the cherry blossom trail and discover pockets of wonderful cherry blossoms all along the walking trail in our Japanese Gardens.
Flavours of Japan
With the scenery of the Japanese Gardens good enough to eat, why not put some Cherry Blossoms on your plate with a series of signature dishes honouring the flower to be released in 2018. One of a kind festival delicacies include:
- Aunty Tomsu’s Cherry Blossom Cheesecake
- Sweet Pink Lotus Bun by Tsuru
- Cherry Dessert Gyoza by Shiso Fine
