Mini Trains West Ryde is a fantastic, affordable event for all families. Based in West Ryde, just behind Coles, it isn’t too far from the Parramatta region.

The Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society was formed in 1948 on its present site. They open on the third Saturday afternoon of each month from 1.30pm to around 4.30pm.

West Ryde Mini Trains

They have three miniature railways and offer rides on trains hauled by miniature steam locomotives. The park grounds are a popular location for children’s birthday parties or small group afternoon gatherings. For the enthusiast, it is a good spot to just lie back and watch those steam trains work hard pulling heavily loaded passenger trains.

  • They have a kiosk which sells drinks, ice cream, cakes, chips, etc.
  • Entry is $4 for adults and $2 for children. Rides are $2 each for all ages UPDATED: August 2018.
  • PLEASE NOTE: You must wear enclosed shoes in order to ride the trains.

Real coal-powered steam, electric and/or petrol powered trains run on the 1st Sunday of the month (except January) – subject to the weather (rain or certain fire danger levels).

**IMPORTANT:All train passengers must be wearing fully enclosed shoes for safety. (No thongs or sandals etc). **

Some of our facilities include picnic grounds, canteen serving hot and cold food/ drinks/ snacks/ ice cream and more!

  • Park entry is FREE!
  • Train ride tickets ($4 per person) will be on sale on the day from our ticket office (no prior bookings required for tickets).
  • We have EFTPOS available for easy payment for both train ride tickets and the canteen!
  • Undercover table bookings: All the undercover tables are booked out for the remainder of 2019! Bookings for next year will be open soon.

All other outdoor tables and grassed areas are not subject to any reservations and operate on a first-in basis.

Regular train ride tickets are only available on the day from our ticket office – no ticket bookings required. (Should there be a total fire ban in place on the day, steam trains and BBQs will not be able to be used.)

Note – we reserve the right to close our site during the day if weather conditions change (for example thunderstorms, fire danger levels or other adverse weather that may arise which could affect the safety of visitors to our site)
