There’s a great amount of wintry fun to have this July, with your winter woollies on! Here are our top 10 picks of what’s on in July – in date order. 1Winterlight | 6th to 22nd July

The magical fun that is Winterlight is gliding into Parramatta this weekend. Taking centre stage is the largest open-air ice rink in Sydney, complete with a dazzling light show frozen inside the ice. Plus there is a special kids rink, free kids workshops, magical winter light garden, illuminated ferris wheel, vintage rides, elevated ice slide, roving entertainers, warming winter food and live music.

On opening night there is unlimited skating and rides for $35 per person. And there is a special session for kids and parents from 3pm, plus a host of fun activities and entertainment.

Celebrate winter at the Market By The River Winter Market! There will be a fantastic line up of stalls, delicious hot food and drinks and great activities for all, including free yoga and mindfulness sessions.

4Icetopia | 7th to 22nd July

Aquatopia will be turned into IceTopia ice rink in July. It’s an affordable activity with the kids, with tickets just $10 for one skater, $15 for two skaters and $20 for three skaters.

5Burramatta NAIDOC | 15th July

Celebrate Burramatta, as part of NAIDOC week, in the picturesque surrounds of Parramatta Park. The family-friendly event features performances by headline act Casey Donovan, traditional dance and music, open corroboree sand circle, food stalls, free BBQ, heritage tours, Aboriginal astronomy, arts, crafts, games, fireworks finale and more!

Sydney’s Biggest Backyard has been 50 Years in the making and to celebrate they’re putting it On Show! From 20th July to 4th August, they will be showcasing the best the Parklands has to offer, with free events and special offers. The main event is Saturday 21st July at Bungarribee Park, with a visit by animals from Sydney Zoo, a guided walk with the pooch you love, great tucker from the bush, BMX bandits, our very own touring car and much more.

7Beat the Bottle | 22nd July

Join us in cleaning up Parramatta River foreshore of plastic and other waste as part of Beat the Bottle, an initiative of Sydney Water. The event will feature Purple Sneakers DJs on the decks, an interactive percussion performance by Junkyard Beats, and local families (like you!) volunteering. All clean up participants will receive a free stainless steel reusable water bottle.

9Day Out With Thomas | 28th and 29th July

A Day Out With Thomas is a must do for Thomas the Tank Engine fans and great fun for the whole family. There are lots of Thomas themed activities, plus access to ALL of the museums exhibits, use of the BBQ facility and playground.

10National Tree Day | 29th July

National Tree Day is Australia’s largest tree-planting and nature care event. Since 1996, more than 3.8 million people have planted 24 million trees and plants! The event is an opportunity to do something positive for our community and the environment. There are two main local events on 29th July:

  • City of Parramatta Council is hosting an event at Third Settle Reserve in Winston Hills. There will be planting of 10,000 native seedlings, wildlife display, face painting, bushland games, craft, pop-up library, guided bushwalks and BBQ lunch.
  • City of Ryde Council are holding their event at Laurel Park, with a free BBQ.
