Brrr…so long sunny, warm autumn! Normally the cooler weather sees the calendar of events shrink but there’s still lots of cool events to enjoy (pun intended!), particularly on the first weekend in June. Just make sure to rug up! 1Vivid Sydney | Until 15th June

Vivid at Darling Harbour

Until 15th June, the world’s largest festival of light makes Sydney sparkle in the colour and spectacle of Vivid Sydney. We think Lights for the Wild at Taronga Zoo is the most family friendly, full Vivid experience, particularly with little ones. And Chatswood is a great mini Vivid experience with kids. Plus Darling Harbour is a great way to experience Vivid in the city without the crowds!

The 2nd annual Matsuri Japan Festival in Parramatta celebrates Japanese culture and cross cultural friendship. This event is for everyone who loves Japan, with food stalls, arts and crafts workshops and stage performances.

3Wangal Walk Community Day and ‘Healing Through Belonging’ Exhibition | 1st 3 Weekends in June

The Murama Cultural Council with Sydney Olympic Park is proud to showcase visual art across a diverse range of media responding to the theme of belonging to country, kinship with community and the power of place. It runs each weekend from 1st to 16th June. And to celebrate the opening, there’ll be free Indigenous cultural activities, performances and a first look at the new ‘Wangal Walk’ tour (running hourly) which tells local stories of our Indigenous cultural heritage on the 1st and 2nd June from 10am to 4pm.

The annual Murray Farm Cracker Carnival is affordable fun for all the family. Gates open at 2pm, fireworks are at 7pm and the carnival closes at 8pm. Entry is a gold coin donation.

Join in the fun and learn lots at the sustainability festival! It will feature free workshops, animal shows, face painting, food and drinks, kids activities and stalls with plants and goodies to buy. All alongside the beautiful Parramatta River at Putney Park!

Come and celebrate 175 years of the Y at YMCA Epping! This fun filled event will include lots of activities for the family to enjoy!

Nature’s remedy for colds, vitamin C, is thankfully in abundance during winter! You can pick your own oranges and mandarins at Anderson Farm, just passed Windsor, from 8th June. Plus you can pick mandarins at Watkins Family Farm and Fords Farm, near Wiseman’s Ferry, on the weekends in June. And for something a little different you can pick peas and tomatoes at Canoelands Orchard as well as pecans at the Pecan Lady on the Central Coast.

8Transport Heritage Expo | 8th to 10th June

Transport Heritage Expo brings Sydney’s transport history to life with the excitement of heritage train rides through the suburbs and return of vintage double decker buses to the streets of the Sydney CBD.

10Supanova – Comic Con & Gaming | 12th to 14th June

Supanova Comic Con & Gaming is Australia’s premier pop culture event, where fandom comes to life!
