Last weekend I had the pleasure of going on a brunch date at a newly opened café in Rhodes. Bare Witness opened on 18th May 2017 and I couldn’t wait to test it out.
Located at The Connection, as part of the Rhodes Community Precinct, there is plenty of free street parking on Shoreline Drive. I was instantly in awe of the place as soon as I laid eyes on it.
The décor is modern and the indoor seating area is extremely spacious, which means you can easily fit prams inside. I would go as far as to say you can even have a mother’s group catch up there with the pram brigade and it wouldn’t be a problem! If it’s a nice day, there is also plenty of outdoor seating. Although there’s no play equipment, there is plenty of open space for children to run around and burn some energy while you sip your coffee from the table. However, the area is not enclosed and there are a set of steps that lead down to the water right next to the cafe.
Service was great, they have high chairs, and without asking they provided my daughter with pencils and a colouring in page (Peppa Pig, bonus!). The menu is quite extensive with something for everyone, including vegetarian and gluten free options. There is also a “kids bites” menu, which consists of your usuals, such as the ham and cheese toastie and some healthy options like a chia fruit cup.
I ordered the Black Alaskan Benedict and it was divine – I highly recommend it if you do visit! You cannot go wrong with the food as the head chef, David Claesson, previously worked at Glass, Hilton Sydney. The coffee was great (very important!), they use a mix of specialty ONA coffee and Tulipshi beans. We had a group of 7 and the food came all at once not long after ordering. Always a positive when you have children!
Now, as a bonus, the view from the café is amazing as it overlooks the water to Wentworth Point. It would be one of the reasons you keep going back. You have to see it to believe it! They are also open for dinner trade! Perfect for a date night or if you’re game enough, bring the kids as well. They also have a liquor license, you know what that means!
The staff at Bare Witness love children, including fur babies! You can bring your dogs with you and have a seat outside. You will be provided with a blanket if it’s cold and your dog will be offered a bowl of water.
Although they have only been open for a week or so they are running like a well-oiled machine. I highly recommend this café and I encourage you to go try it out for yourself before word gets out. It won’t be long till the queues start on the weekend for this lovely gem.
