I must confess, I’ve been so focused on the (slow) development of Wentworth Point Peninsula Park near Sydney Olympic Park ferry wharf, that I completely missed there was another playground being built in Wentworth Point!
The new playground at Bay Park, in One The Waterfront development, was officially opened on 14th February 2019, within 4,700sqm of open community space. And we’re excited that there’s finally a playground in Wentworth Point!
Bay Park playground is colourful, has a small water play area, a few different pieces of play equipment and picnic facilities. It’s good for a short play for preschoolers and young primary school kids. Plus little ones will like the water play and mounds.
But given the size of the development the playground is located within, it’s a shame there isn’t more play elements that encourage social interaction and imaginative play. Plus, just generally more play equipment and shade!
Around the large mound in the middle of the park, is a paved path that’s good for riding and walking on. Plus the kids will probably enjoy riding up and down the large and small mounds – mine did!
There are BBQs, picnic shelters and shaded seating as well. Making it a nice outdoor community space.
Plus, some exercise equipment for parents to use while the kids play – or when they are in bed.
Finding Bay Park
For visitors, this new development can be confusing – we definitely were! The main entry is via 21 Bennelong Parkway in Wentworth Point. Then go left onto Amalfi Drive. You will see the playground on your right. There is limited street parking. Alternatively, you may find a parking spot at the Piazza – just go straight when you enter from Bennelong Parkway.
You can also get there via buses and by walking up from the Sydney Olympic Park ferry wharf.
