Tuckwell ParkBrand new playgrounds are always lots of fun to explore as the play equipment is usually creative and interesting. Sometimes I think its actually me that enjoys a new playground more than my kids though! This is because as long as there are swings, my daughter is happy. And the brand-spanking new one at Tuckwell Park in Macquarie Park definitely delivers.

We were surprised that we were the only ones there on such a beautiful, sunny winters day. The great thing about this park is it is very centrally located, so you can kill two birds (or three) with one stone as part of your outing.

Tuckwell Park

Tuckwell Park is only a few minutes drive from Macquarie Shopping Centre. Shopping with toddlers is always a struggle, but when there’s the promise of a play in the park afterwards, it seems that little bit easier. It is also only a three minute walk from Eden Gardens, so there is the possibility of coffee and/or lunch and a play too! Even better! You can read more about visiting Eden Gardens with kids here.

The playground at Tuckwell Park has:

  • A long tunnel slide with fun climbing structures
  • A toddler climbing play gym  (including ladder, slide, tunnel, small rock climbing wall, fire pole and pretend shop)
  • Two swings (including one toddler swing seat)

Tuckwell ParkThe centrepiece of play equipment is the long tunnel slide that my daughter used over and over again (which is unusual!) There are four different climbing structures set over a soft fall hill to reach the tunnel slide – low netting, bumpy mounds, a rope to pull yourself up on and a significantly large rock climbing wall.

There is a shade sail covering the swings and toddler climbing equipment, making it an appropriate park to visit in summer. We visited in the middle of winter though. We really enjoyed soaking up the sun especially around the section of equipment with the long tunnel slide.

Other Facilities

There is a path around the edge of the playground perfect for riding bikes and scooters. Next to the oval is a half-sized basketball court with hoop, which is enjoyed by older kids and those young at heart. Adjacent to the playground is a large oval with plenty of space to run around and there is a fence blocking access to Lane Cove Road if you have particularly fast little runners. The fence does not block access to the car park though, so keep that in mind. The park has picnic tables and benches as well as an accessible toilet block, but no baby change facilities. There is also a tap and a bubbler.

Finding Tuckwell Park

Tuckwell Park is located on the corner of Tuckwell Place and Fontenoy Road in Macquarie Park. There is plenty of on-site parking available, however this might get busy on weekends when there are sporting matches held here. You can also park at Eden Gardens and walk along Fontenoy Road to the park. It is about a 10 minute walk from Macquarie Park Station, however this would be along the very busy Lane Cove Road so having little ones strapped in a pram/stroller would be a good idea.
