The National Diesel Dirt and Turf Expo returns for its 5th year. The expo has the biggest range of earth moving machinery, agricultural machinery, mowing equipment, trucks, boats, bikes. Families are welcome to attend and it’s FREE to visit! This year due to covid, you need to pre-register.
We’ve enjoyed going every year since it first opened in 2016. And have always called it the Digger Expo. My little ones just love it – and never want to leave, even after a few hours!
The Diesel, Dirt & Turf Expo is a family friendly event perfect for construction loving kids (and adults).
Not only can your kids get up close to all the favourites – bulldozers, diggers, forklifts, rollers, tractors, rock crushers and bob cats. But they can sit in them and watch them in action as well! Plus there’s entertainment, food trucks and things for kids to do.
Expo Dates and Times
- Friday 9th April: 9:30am to 5pm
- Saturday 10th April: 9:30am to 5pm
- Sunday 11th April: 10am to 3pm
The National Diesel Dirt and Turf Expo wasn’t able to go ahead due to covid in 2020, so here’s a video from 2019.
Handy Tips for Taking Kids to the Digger Expo
The annual National Diesel, Dirt and Turf Expo is definitely not to be missed if your kids LOVE anything construction! Now while it is family friendly, it is an industry expo. So expect to be given a LOT of promotional info by the exhibitors – but a LOT of freebies as well!
My top tip is to go on the Friday if you can. And the quietest time seems to in the afternoon. It’s a LOT busier on the weekend and you will need to allow more time to wait to get close to equipment.
Put on your walking shoes! The Expo is BIG… think Ikea but without the shortcuts – so there’s a lot of walking! But it is pram friendly (minus a few stairs from one of the carparks). And be prepared to stop a lot along the way as your kid gets in and out of EVERY vehicle!
Make time to watch a Freestyle Kings show, there will be about three a day – best to ask at the entrance when they’ll be performing on the day you visit. They are performing next to the food court area, at the back of the demo. And the kids should also really enjoy seeing the little big rigs and live demos as well.
All of the expo is outside and there isn’t much shade at all. I’ve taken a compact umbrella for some portable shade in the past.
Make sure to grab a map at the entrance with your expo bag. Or check out the map now and plan your visit. Toilet blocks are located around Sydney Dragway and there will also be port-a-loos near the food court area. We only spotted one water refill station, at the toilets just outside the entrance.
There are two food areas and both have some seating but unfortunately no shade. Keep in mind the main food area is at the back of the expo (orange area on the map in the bottom left hand corner), next to the Freestyle Kings show area.
There are a LOT of cool freebies to collect so be prepared to be carrying a bit.
And finally, remember the kids can climb into and touch most machinery. The key is if the door is open. The ones they can’t get into are usually locked up or there’s a sign. ENJOY!
