I have to agree with Kellie that West Ryde Library is amazing for kids. I’d like to take a moment to introduce you to one of my favourites, Ryde library.
Located at Top Ryde City shopping centre, it is very easy to get to. Just park your car at the shops, which has free parking for 3 hours, and make your way to the Piazza area. The doors to the Library are right next to Guzman Y Gomez. Use the lift or the spiral stairs to go up to level 1.
Ryde Library is split up into a few different sections. There are the computers and printers you can hire next to the kids area. You’ll find a large chess set between both places.
The kids section has a night sky simulation. My kids often lie down on the floor and pretend to do some star gazing. The hardcover books are found toward the front of the kids area, with a padded bench in front.
There’s also a touch screen computer for the kids to do some electronic “painting”.
Around the corner, past the themed displays you’ll find the non fiction section. My kids like to “read” books about dinosaurs and other animals. I actually wish the kids section had some non-fiction kids books.
There are some meeting rooms that are available to hire for private studying, or you can use one of the many desks available for self and group study. A few booths are provided with screens. These are often used by school students. They are popular and I see people running through the doors at 10am to grab them.
There are male and female toilets as well as a disabled one. The disabled toilet has a change table. I actually prefer to use the parents room downstairs past Guzman Y Gomez but if you are desperate, the library one is a good option.

Top Ryde City
Once you finish with the library, there are many different things you can do at Top Ryde City. Just outside the library, in the Piazza, there are some fake animals that the kids love to climb as well as a water feature that the kids enjoy running through during summer.
Upstairs on Level 1 in the shopping centre, there are a few different play areas. There are 2 building areas with large legos as well as blue foam building pieces. There’s a gated playground for the older kids and also a smaller padded play area for kids 2 and under.
Pop your kids in a trolley and do some grocery shopping before heading back home. This is how I keep my sanity!
