Explore the property and hear the stories that reveal the life of the estate over 160 years. Take a peek inside the historic house, view outbuildings, and meet farm animals. Or simply bring a picnic rug and enjoy the picturesque setting with a delicious spread from our ready-to-eat food vendors.

Autumn Harvest Festival

Plus learn all there is to know about pickling and fermenting with Cornersmith. Kids can also make traditional hand-rolled pasta to take home and try. Gin lovers can join Archie Rose Distilling Co in the Old Schoolhouse at Rouse Hill Estate for a guided tasting of five limited-edition Archie Rose gins (licensed event, ages 18+). Family fun days at Campbelltown Steam & Machinery Museum are run by volunteers and are an opportunity for the public to see machinery from bygone days in operation, they include working steam displays and stationary oil engines, army vehicles, tractors, farm machinery, Blacksmithing and stalls. We have vintage rides, picnic facilities, onsite hot and cold food. This event is a great day out for the whole family.

UPDATE: Sadly due to a ban issued by the Fire Brigade Employees Union (FBEU), there will be no Open Day activities taking place in fire stations across Sydney as well as the Hunter and Illawarra regions. Further details on the FBEU ban are available in our Media Release.

Come behind the scenes of Australia’s busiest fire and rescue service at our Open Day on Saturday 15th May. From fires, chemical spills, car crashes, natural disasters and humanitarian relief across the state, the country and even overseas – our firefighters are prepared for anything!

Apple picking season started Australia Day long weekend in Bilpin and continues until May/ June. Plus, the Bilpin Markets is on Saturday from 10am to 12pm.

There are different varieties of apples available to pick at different times and farms. Below is a summary of the main PYO farms in Bilpin:

  • Shields Orchard – no entry fee, bookings required, open Friday to Sunday 10am to 3pm, apples you pick $3/kg
  • TNT Produce – Entry is $2 per person (children under 5 free), $5/kg for apples you pick, open weekends and public holidays from 10am to 4pm, farm animals, cash only
  • Bilpin Fruit Bowl (NO MORE APPLES) – Entry fee is $5 for adults and $3 for kids 3 to 15ys, open daily from 10am to 4pm. Apples you pick are $5/kg
  • Pine Crest Orchard (NO MORE APPLES) – no entry fee, apples you pick $5/kg, open weekends and public holidays from 10am to 4pm

Concord Farmers Market is on the first and third Sunday of the month (except January) in Cintra Park Concord from 0830 to approximately 1230.

A great way to spend time with the family on a Sunday morning. Safe shopping in the open air. Free parking. Easy access. Kid friendly. Pet friendly.

The Market is managed and operated by the Rotary Club of Concord as a local community project. Management of the Market is on a voluntary basis with all proceeds going to the Rotary Club of Concord’s community projects.

The Market continues to grow in popularity. The organisers welcome suggestions from the public. And encourage applications from prospective stallholders to sell their produce, in accordance with the Market Rules for Stallholders at the Stallholder Registration page.

Nurragingy Miniature Railway | Doonside @ Nurragingy Reserve

After years of planning and work, Nurragingy Miniature Railway opened in November 2019. It runs on the 3rd Sunday of the month from 10am until 3:30pm.

  • Train rides are $18 per family group (up to 6 people).
  • All Passengers require a ticket to ride the train. Children under 3 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult (18 years of age or older)
  • You MUST wear fully enclosed shoes to be able to ride the rails.

Last time we visited, there wasn’t any signage and it can be hard to find unless you know Nurragingy Reserve well. The railway is west of the water playground (which is behind the waterfall), along the green Parklands track just past the Magpie Picnic Area. We recommend going left at the roundabout when you enter Nurragingy Reserve and parking near the water playground and then walking over to the railway.

Riding the Rails [PAUSED] | Newington Armory @ Newington Armory

On every Sunday, Riding the Rails takes visitors on a 30min train ride around part of the former Royal Australian Navy Armament Depot, on a train once used to transport missiles, torpedoes and other WW2 munitions. With snippets of commentary from on-board tour guides, Riding the Rails takes you past buildings dating back to the 1890s, including explosives storehouses and workshops, cottages, and a wharf.

And make sure to have a play at the fab Blaxland Riverside Park while you are there!

Tickets for Riding the Rails can be purchased on the day at the Armory Visitor Centre (located near the main entrance to Newington Armory).

Blacktown City Medieval Fayre | Nurragingy Reserve @ Nurragingy Reserve

History will come alive this May at the Nurragingy Reserve over two spectacular days at the Blacktown City Medieval Fayre. Featuring regal pageantry from the past – Kings and Queens, Lords and Ladies and Knights in full armour. Families will experience the excitement of living history at its best. Bring a picnic or purchase your lunch and enjoy a great family day out.

Nurragingy Reserve will be transformed into a world of medieval magic on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd May 2021. Over two whole days, you can experience life as our medieval ancestors at this free family-friendly event.

The 2021 program is still being finalised. Here is a list of highlights from the last Blacktown City Medieval Fayre in 2019.

  • International Jousting Competition
  • Working Blacksmith Hut
  • Medieval displays and combat artillery
  • An assortment of roving characters, lurking within the medieval village. Jesters, scary hunchbacks, an evil witch and a masked executioner all live here too. You might even see Robin Hood and Friar Tuck!
  • Birds of Prey Show
  • Archery Games and craft workshops
  • Handmade arts and crafts
  • Free camel and pony rides
  • Come along dressed in your favourite medieval attire and participate in the Best Dressed Competition.

Getting There

  • Shuttle bus: (waiting on confirmation)
  • Parking: Free parking is available onsite. Entry is via the traffic lights at the corner of Knox Road and Cross Street, Doonside.
  • Accessible Parking: Limited parking available onsite. Please inform the traffic controllers when you enter and they will direct you to the appropriate parking area if spaces are available.
  • Public Transport: Nurragingy Reserve is a short 10 minute walk from Doonside Station. Exit the station onto Cross Street and walk towards Knox Road.
