Bush School Storytime with Poppy the Possum | Central Gardens @ Central Gardens at the Bush School (near play equipment on Paton St side)
May 17 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am

We absolutely loved going along to this FREE monthly outdoor storytime (when my boys were preschoolers). Things have changed a little due to covid, including that you now need to book online.

Here is how Bush School Storytime ran when we attended. It starts at 10am with a nature craft and discovery activity.

Then there’s songs and stories and finally cuddles with Poppy the Possum at about 11am.

The Bush School Storytime is run by Cumberland Council’s Children’s Services Team. And there are now two sessions a month – 1st and 3rd Mondays from 10am to 11am at Central Gardens Nature Reserve in Merrylands.

Session 1 – First Monday of month

  • Monday 12 April 2021
  • Monday 3 May 2021
  • Monday 7 June 2021
  • Monday 5 July 2021

Session 2 – Third Monday of month

  • Monday 15 March 2021
  • Monday 19 April 2021
  • Monday 17 May 2021
  • Monday 21 June 2021

Bush School Storytime with Poppy the Possum will be cancelled in the event of wet weather.

Finding Bush School Storytime with Poppy the Possum

It’s best to park on the Paton Street side of Central Gardens Reserve in Merrylands. The Bush School is near the tennis courts, next to the large, shaded playground.

Bush School Storytime with Poppy the Possum

After the Bush School Storytime, we love visiting the native animals, swapping a book in the street library, checking out the waterfall and play in the two playgrounds.

Parramatta River Clean Up | Ermington @ George Kendall Riverside Park
Jun 5 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

How lucky are we to be able to walk, cycle, play and picnic by Parramatta River! But it’s only nice to enjoy when its clean and healthy…. which all starts with each of us helping keep it litter free!

Sadly there’s a LOT of rubbish along the foreshore at George Kendall Riverside Park. It would actually have to be THE MOST LITTER POLLUTED spot (that’s easily accessible) along Parramatta River we’ve found…. and trust us, we’ve gone looking!

So we’re holding regular litter clean ups to make a significant dent on the amount of rubbish that has built up along the foreshore in Ermington and continues to collect there. Since May 2020, we’ve removed a massive 183 bags/ over 800kgs of rubbish!!

George Kendall Riverside Park Litter Clean Up

Our clean up site is over 400m long and we have 6 clean up spots marked out, with a Litter Leader at each, to keep us covid safe. This is a family friendly event and it’s best suited to kids 4yrs+. All equipment is supplied, you just need to wear gumboots or enclosed, sturdy shoes.

We’d LOVE to have your help – many hands make light work! We have a great, growing group of local families who regularly join us. At our March clean up, there was over 80 adults and kids!!

Litter Clean up George Kendall Riverside Park

You’ll find our welcome table near the end of Broadoaks Street, just at the start of the disused path along the foreshore in George Kendall Riverside Park. There’s a nearby carpark, Cafe W is a short walk away and so are toilets and playgrounds.

Get updates on our monthly litter clean up on Facebook
