Thomas Wemyss Park is a large park with paths to wander, lots of open grass, basketball court and playground. And it’s just across the road from the Bartlett Street shops.
The playground was fenced off in early 2020 due to damage and safety concerns. Council has thankfully now finished upgrading the playground, as well as the Bartlett Street shop front.
We’ll update our review once covid restrictions ease. In the meantime, here’s our review of the old playground for comparison.
The play equipment was good for toddlers through to young primary school kids.
There were different methods for the children to gain access to the slides. This makes it perfect for kids of all ages. Even back in 2016 when we originally wrote this article, the playground needed some maintenance, specifically the flooring. And families were keen for it to be gated.
You’ll often see older children having basketball matches, which is great to watch. There are currently no BBQ or toilet facilities. The park is quite large and great to help the little ones get rid of excess energy. And it’s a short cut to Ermington West Public School.
Across the road from the park there are a few stores. There’s a Chinese restaurant, Charlie’s takeaway shop for some fish and chips, or some super strong and awesome coffee, a dentist, hair dressers, a cake shop and butchers.
Many people have mentioned that they love to buy some fish and chips from across the road, walk over to the playground and have lunch there. I am yet to try it but look forward to doing so.
