It may be cold outside, but that doesn’t mean the kids won’t still want to play at a playground! All rugged up of course, with a nice warm flask of something for you. Plus something to sit on – metal and sandstone get mighty cold in winter!

Lions Park West Ryde Winter Playgrounds
Yes, I actually have a little bum seat! It’s a foldable cushion seat and great for bushwalking and playgrounds in winter.

For inspiration on where to play outdoors in winter, here is a list of 20 top winter playgrounds. All the playgrounds have no or very little shade so you can thaw out in the winter sun. None are near the river, as the winter breeze off the water can be VERY chilly. Most have a softfall ground, which is good after it’s rained. And only two have water pumps, which can be fun on a warm winters day – just bring a change of clothes!

This top winter playgrounds list contains small to large sized playgrounds for a range of ages. It’s been grouped into ones within the City of Parramatta and then across Western Sydney. And you can see all the playgrounds we’ve reviewed that we think are good to visit in winter here.
